Preparation for the Journey

There are many things one must check before leaving port. Although I'm only chief cook and bottle washer, I'm trying to contribute my share of brain cells to the job. 

The boat itself just had a major survey done, was out of the water 2 weeks, and all noted faults were corrected. 

So here is today's list of chores for me to accomplish (after the fact):

Engine room inventory

1 gal John Deere 15W-40 oil
3 1/2 gal Shell Rotella 15w-40 oil

1 gal 30W oil
1/2 gal John Deere antifreeze
1/2 qt Chevron ATF
1 qt gear oil 80W-90
11 assorted engine & water filters
1/2 gallon white vinegar
2 x 12 oz WD-40
11 oz Engine Starting Fluid

9 12v batteries terminals all tight and clean 

Deck & Cabin inventory

Anchor in place, anchor winch working, handle in cabinet, spare anchor in closet

New wiper blades on windscreen

Set all 4 clocks to correct time 

3 full Propane bottles; plus 1 half-full

Check VHF radios - mounted and handheld

Check Garmins - mounted and backup

Check radio/entertainment units

Inflate Achilles dingy, install motor, put in water and drive to boat

Tried all flashlights; 3 dead or low;  2 PFD lights are low; Get D cells to replace all low cells

Check PFDs: 4 Type I, 2 Type III, 2 Type IV

Check wetsuit, fins, mask

Check 2 survival suits (try on tomorrow)

Check ditch bag

Check EPIRB 

Check location of fire extinguishers (5) and their level
