Back on the Water Again Soon

It's been about 6 weeks since my last post chronicling the bad weather that stalled our trip from San Diego to Seattle. Jim went home to Seattle. I came back to San Diego.

During the interval, we fooled around a bit with Gary's new boat. It's very like Jason in some respects (age, maker and decor), and quite different in others (gas engines, cabin arrangements). A bit sportier and shorter by 11 feet, this is a cruiser.  [click any photo to enlarge it]

Poor ol' Jason has been sitting in Morro Bay all this time - not completely lonely though. Jim made one visit down, Laurie and I spent 5 days on the boat a couple weeks ago.

We are in a slip amidst a bunch of working fishing boats (several occupied by retired fishermen).

We repeatedly saw a blue pigeon who has been hanging around the fishing boat next door for the last 3 years or so. His condition is called Leucism (a bit like albino, but not quite the same). He's a beautiful color and seems much more appealing than the average "flying rat" pigeon.

We also had an 8-foot male sea lion take a 3-hour nap right alongside the boat, staying in the shade while he did so. He didn't seem to worry about our activity onboard.

Laurie brightened up the inside of the boat with some flowers and new magazines. And she did all the laundry and changed the sheets. That deserves a medal.

Don't worry, we'll throw all that excess weight off as soon as we get underway!

We did some exploring around Morro Bay in the dinghy. It's a very nice place to spend a few days if you get the chance. And if you like patchy fog.

Be sure to take enough fuel, and watch the wind and especially the tide. It does go out ... and it would be a very long slog through the slough to the slip.

Here's hoping we'll have nice weather and the blogs will continue. Watch for us Wednesday on a wave near you.
